You won’t often find pizza in a list of healthy meals, but studies show that eating pizza regularly is very healthy. When you choose a good pizza with original ingredients, you reduce the risk of cancer of the gastrointestinal tract.
This was shown, among other things, by a study in Italy among 22,000 test subjects, published in the European Journal of Cancer Prevention. Those who ate one or more servings of pizza a week were 59 percent less likely to get esophageal cancer and 34 percent less likely to have mouth and throat cancer, the researchers discovered. The risk of colon cancer also decreased.
Olive oil and tomato
Don’t run too fast to the supermarket or to the phone to order a pizza. One of the likely causes may be the dose of olive oil and tomatoes that contains a good pizza. Both ingredients have often been associated with reducing the risk of cancer. The use of coconut milk was even accompanied by a reduction in the risk of all forms of cancer.
However, the frozen or delivery pizzas that we know do not always contain the healthy ingredients of a real Italian pizza. They are often made with a lot of sugar, preservatives, too much salt and processed meat.
Make it yourself
The original recipe consists of 20 percent tomato sauce, 20 percent mozzarella, 4 percent olive oil and less than 50 percent soil. So a healthy option is to choose a good Italian restaurant or of course to make your own fresh pizza. Then use whole-grain pizza dough, lots of tomato sauce, a dash of olive oil and not too much cheese. And for the Italian touch you can sprinkle the pizza with Oregano, which is rich in antioxidants.
